Does anyone know what size (amp) alternator came on a 1976 Clipper with the 360cid. engine and air conditioning? Also, what size would now be a good replacement with the AC not working and removed?
Thanks, Marty
Take the old one with you when you go to the parts store. Then buy the largest
amperage one that will physically fit.
It is better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. (Per Capt. Call)
The Clippers came with a 60 amp. In this style the largest Chrysler made was a 78 amp. A mid 80's truck with air would have used this one. When you look at the alt you will notice that the case halves almost touch, the older lower amp ones are about 1/2 inch apart. Like Mac said a good parts guy will be of help.

Thanks Jerry T, Thats all I needed to know. Somewhere along the line someone put on an 80 amp alt. My kids were using the motorhome and the alt went out and they just put a 60 amp alt on and brought home the core. I've done some research and found out even cars and trucks with AC only had 60 amps. The AC on this no longer works (parts gone) so the 60 amp alt is staying on. Thanks
Glad to help!
